A modified burn ban is in effect as of noon today. No residential or land clearing fires are allowed. Small recreational and cooking fires are still acceptable, within enclosures and with proper precautions.

IN TWO WEEKS: The Samish River Bridge on Old Hwy 99 will be closed to all traffic from July 18-September 13 for repairs. Please plan accordingly. We will be fixing the bridge decks and expansion joints, and repaving the approaches to the bridge.

Good news! Fecal bacteria levels in the water at Bay View State Park have gone down. The water is now safe for swimming and wading. The water at the park is sampled weekly. We're still not sure what happened, but we're keeping an eye on the area.

Water at Bay View State Park is currently unsafe for swimming and wading due to high levels of bacteria in the water. Signs are being posted, and will be removed when the water is safe again. Skagit County staff are investigating the cause of the bacteria.

We're celebrating 20 years of the Skagit Marine Resources Committee. Our nearshore ecosystem is precious, and the MRC has done so much to restore it and keep it healthy, with over 50,000 hours of volunteer service over the years. Thanks, MRC!

IN ONE WEEK: Old Hwy 99 will be closed to all traffic over the Friday Creek Bridge from June 24-July 17. Please plan accordingly. The existing concrete bridge decks and expansion joints will be repaired, and the bridge approaches will be repaved.
