It's an organic process. The participants have shaped it with love and necessity, I am merely the conduit.

It would be a useful learning experience, then. You'd be going up against some proficient Cruel writers, as well as some newbies and Gentle writers also challenging themselves. Odds are you'll get some useful feedback, too.

And... a friend of mine... will call theirs "fancy feast."

I will do my best to implement "bumping tender delicacies" in casual conversation.

Flash forward to present day: April's my birthmonth, and so it shall always be Gentle. Happy birthmonth to me.

One has to consider the source: April is the time for bumping uglies, in the vulgar argot, and TS Eliot had become embittered because he couldn't get laid once everyone figured out how anti-Semitic he was.

I'm glad to hear that. That's a very good practice.

FAQ: How do you define "cruel"? Same as any good dictionary does (look around on Memidex). It's up to the writer's interpretation, and then it's down to the reader's tastes. Good luck!

First day of signups netted 13 writers; that number rises to 20 on day two! Is this round going to break another record?

Itself, a sufficiently cruel tale.

OTOH, I wonder if I could market an extremely detailed how-to on staging and running your own writing contest.

Behind-the-scenes geekery: I now have Google Sheets set up to notify me when someone wants a notice about the deadline, as well as when someone new (has never signed up before) joins the competition. Complex machinery for greater convenience; that much harder to hand off.

I copy-pasted two dictionary definitions on the front page of the website. After that, it's up to the writer's interpretation (and the judgment of the readers). The restraints are really off for this one.
