Every morning, when I stop for coffee, a Brazilian woman teaches me a Portuguese word and I teach her one as Gaeilge. Makes me smile 💕

I knew 'thank you' was 'obriagado' but didn't know it changed depending on the gender of the person speaking. 'Obrigrada', if you're female.

Absolutely and spread the native tongue. I'm trying to brush up on my own Gaeilge, just downloaded Duolingo and love it!

I asked her if it was Portuguese she spoke, she was pleasantly surprised. I told her I speak Irish &we had a weird moment of understanding.

Not sure if it's empathy or just getting to know something very personal about someone but it's lovely 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩

Many Brazilians settled in Gort for decades. It should operate like a Gaeltacht for Portuguese.
