I’m starting to appreciate flies a bit more. Thanks to the enthusiasm of a few entomologists! Thank you! Look at the beauty in this one.

Speaking to a distinguished scientist, non-taxonomist - who asked ‘how is taxonomy these days?’. I replied that it seemed to be having a revival, with much more people interested than in, say, the 60s or 70s. He replied ‘well the world population’s doubled, what did you expect?’

The peculiarly flat larva of Platycampus luridiventris...few Yorkshire records, so please get out and check for it under leaves of Alder showing feeding signs. It is normally resting alongside the main leaf rib as here.
