if a major 50 million dollar pub offers to pub your stuff & they only want things where trans ppl are complicated & edgy (bc you're writing your authentic trans truth) rather than any fluff you might write too, THAT's the problem. Them reinforcing biased narrative

The frustration for me is that the fluff might sometimes still get published but it just... doesn't seem to sell as well? Fewer copies were published or fewer prominent review. Less "buzz", etc. So it's making less of a dent on the overall narratives.

I've had this happen to my face when I suggest that maybe Jewish books where people are happy being Jewish should get attention. They hear it as that I'm asking for our important works about suffering be silenced and pushed aside. ....no???

The reason TINY PIECES OF SKULL took three decades to appear ( and then won a Lamda ) is that in the 80s publishers wanted a trans victim narrative rather than a noirish comic English misadventures abroad novel...
