My daughter does not care for school this year (G3 also). Then she had a good day Friday. I found out it was because she started reading a book about a kid who hated school and it was apparently just the mirror she needed.

It is important to be open to changing the terminology that ones uses in order to more precisely describe a phenomenon. We cannot be so wedded to our terms that we refuse to consider alternatives. And we also cannot be so wedded to our terms that we use them as gatekeepers.

I think the key is recognizing that the brilliance of students will show up in multiple formats. The student quoted in the original tweet has important mathematical insights that often get overlooked and even penalized.
