UCLA played Kentucky in the final. Joe B Hall was asked who UCLA should hire. He volunteered himself since he had followed Adolph Rupp and said “why ruin someone else’s life?”

Funny footnote: The person who broke the story before the Final Four was George Raveling. He was coach at Wash St and had a newspaper column. Bartow gave him the scoop. Wooden knew he would get Qs and was tired of lying. So he announced his retirement.

One small nitpick though. Wooden did not decide “on the spot” to retire. That was a very long yarn he liked to tell. He actually made the decision before the season and Gene Bartow had already been tapped as his replacement. Good story though!

Lovely column by ⁦⁩ about John Wooden on the 10th anniversary of his death. Wooden was a few months from turning 100 and becoming a great great grandfather.

Let’s be clear about something: If there’s not a baseball season, this is on the owners, not the players. There should have been, and could have been, a plan finalized weeks ago. Column:

Strongly encourage everyone to read this story from ⁦⁩ and ⁦⁩ for . College basketball coaches can be a point of leadership but the sport needs to do a much better job hiring minority coaches.

It is so disheartening the way baseball is blowing this opportunity to get the season started. The result of decades of toxic relations between owners and players. Sides deadlocked after MLB rejects latest Players Association proposal

Drew Brees should know that during WW2, whites in military sometimes crossed the street rather than salute a black officer. And that all white men except 1 (Steve Belichick, Bill’s dad) walked out of the Okinawa officers club when a black Naval officer, Samuel Barnes, walked in.
