A highlight of my trip to Bathurst to deliver the Light on the Hill lecture was meeting Cody Jones, a young Wiradjuri man and future leader of our nation. Cody showed me a woodcarving his step-father made of me in my hat. I was humbled. And impressed!

Meanwhile, I’m in Bathurst about to hear deliver the annual Light on the Hill address. Introduced as exercising ‘patience, intelligence and goodwill’ in his pursuit of justice for First Nations people. I couldn’t have said it better.

A great privilege to deliver the 2018 Light on the Hill address. Our Nation has yet to deliver First Nations with the standards of quality living identified by Chifley. We have more to do to ensure the light on the hill shines for First Nations. But shine it will under Labor.

It doesn't make sense for teachers to be sacked because of who they are. Proud that Labor has called for changes to the law to stop LGBTIQ+ teachers being discriminated against in religious schools. We have acted - time for the government to step up.

A very real concern for our communites ! Work for dole an 'intergenerational time bomb' for Indigenous communities - Almost 60% disengaging w/ the scheme were under 25, & another 31% were 25-34 year olds.

It is an exciting venture to see the results of First Nations partnering with industry to build an economy that is compatible with culture, the environment and the lifestyle of those who live in the Kimberley.

In my meetings with CDP providers, I have heard repeatedly their concerns about how the CDP is operating in remote areas. "In a concerning number of instances it just leads to further hardship in those communities." - East Kimberley Job Pathways (EKJB).

The Federal Government’s delusion that the CDP program works is astounding. This morning in a statement the Minister for Indigenous Affairs said CDP was a “resounding success”. How much more evidence does the Government need that shows CDP is not working?

"I couldn't pay for the rent, I didn't have money to buy food the whole time during the whole eight weeks," Mr Ahfat said. The $275-million-a-year CDP scheme not a success story – it is a failure that has led to more hardship and deeper poverty.

Such a courageous win by the . Carrying the mental demons of 2015 parlayed into the first 25 minutes today, to dig deep and find a way to claw back into the contest and pinch the victory is an extraordinary performance.
