Talk about letting the cat out of the bag. “We were always wondering when the whistle would blow on climate change.” Head of the farm advisory agency Teagasc, Gerry Boyle. Is he saying - we knew change would have to come but we just kept quiet?

Understanding ’s role in Ireland’s failure to reduce GHG emissions is important & requires delving into the history books. This line - “We were always wondering when the whistle would blow on climate change” - is best understood in its historical context. THREAD/1/

An asteroid is hurtling towards Earth. The world’s diplomats come together to address the emergency. And they spend the whole time talking about how to create “market mechanisms” to try and avoid actually paying for asteroid defense. That’s basically so far.

Just visited the (very snazzy) Qatar pavilion where they had a VR demo. I expected a weak climate action plan presentation or a "natural beauty of Qatar" kind of thing. Nope. Football stadium. I asked why. "This happens in Doha". They're not even trying.

Just cycled the entire length of the quays, from the IFSC to Heuston station. What an absolute nightmare. I have seen better cycle infrastructure in the poorest of the poorest part of the city centre in Eastern Europe. It's a miracle someone has not been killed biking here

I cycled from Kildare st to Heuston this eve. No choice but to go on footpath to avoid one way stretch on molesworth st to get on to luas track (also dangerous) to avoid having to go all the way around TCD. Then at college green had an illegal turn to join cycle lane! Nuts

I agree - carbon dissapates in geological timescales: we've screwed up the atmosphere in a couple of human lifespans. There is no time left for healing or repair, NO time. House on fire? Stop throwing petrol at it.

"I’m not traveling like this because I want everyone to do so, I’m doing this to send a message that it is impossible to live sustainably today & that needs to change. It needs to become much easier." Great messaging by as usual!

If you haven't already seen it, Josh & I spent many, many hours writing this Q&A on "Article 6" carbon markets. It's a key unresolved agenda item for that could "make or break" the Paris Agreement.
