First half is finished and what a ride! Aaron Diehl does a little bit of improvisation in his performance of the Gershwin and it’s such a thrill to be on stage with him as he creates the music in real time. Us classical musicians aren’t so great at that, so it’s always inspiring!

back again.. I always have to go through a checklist as I leave the hotel - suit, shoes, cufflinks, bowtie(hate that part), scores, Protein bar for intermission, and my trusty water bottle. Also, my heart rate starts slowly rising at this point!

back here! This is what a conductor’s afternoon often looks like - more studying! I’m conducting the Rite of Spring in a couple of weeks so I need to do my daily mixed meter practice. T-minus 3 hours until the concert.
