BIG: Mueller and his team concluded that Congress has authority to police obstruction of justice. MUELLER: “[W]e concluded that Congress has the authority to prohibit a president’s corrupt use of his authority in order to protect the integrity of the administration of justice."

The argument here is remarkable. The president wasn't obstructing justice because he was only "sincerely" engaging in a political pushback against his "enemies." Uh-huh.

None of us know yet how accurate Barr's statements are. But this is blatant: the attorney general is pre-gaming the release of an investigation into his boss, on the terms preferred by his boss, using the preferred language of his boss. It may look ugly to say, but that's it.

Key Barr conclusion: "Apart from whether the acts were obstructive, this evidence of non-corrupt motives weighs heavily against any allegation that the president had a corrupt intent to obstruct the investigation."

Barr says he and Rosenstein "disagreed with some of the Special Counsel’s legal theories and felt that some of the episodes examined did not amount to obstruction as a matter of law"

I've reserved judgment on Barr, but this just makes me want to read the report and dispense with his interpretations. The judgment on obstruction in the first letter was basically agnostic; this seems more like spin.

The mere investigation of an alleged crime means a crime was committed.

Wow, Barr is actually doing this. Pre-spinning the Mueller report in Trump’s favor.

AG Barr on obstruction of justice: “the report recounts 10 episodes involving the president and discusses potential legal theories for connecting these actions to elements of an obstruction offense...” Rosenstein and he concluded the evidence “is not sufficient.”

Trump has already fired off about ten angry tweets this morning. He's sure acting like a man who's been totally exonerated, huh?
