I haven't criticized Fuente or anyone at Tech yet for Haze leaving. I don't have the evidence to warrant it.

I'm working on a longer form piece for this offseason about the Tech program as a whole, but I'm still going to criticize members inside the program when necessary.

That said, I do think it’s disappointing and intriguing that he’s leaving Tech for another program. That’s not good.

Before Haze left, WR was the strongest and deepest unit on the team 😂 his departure doesn’t make it thin.

I’ve been trying to write an offseason checklist-type article for the for about two weeks and each time I’ve come close to publishing it, something big happens. Think I’m just going to scrap it.

Fair, but I also think there is a significant portion of the fan base who feels like Fuente is now coaching with one foot out. He could alleviate that feeling if he would talk.

Now that this has wrapped up, here are my thoughts: it’s great for that Justin Fuente is back, but Fuente’s lack of explanation is detrimental . Working on a column now.

Of course, Fuente owes an explanation to his superiors, his coaches and players. But he had a prime opportunity today to endear himself to a section of the fan base disappointed about the last couple days. He missed that chance.

I stand by my belief in Justin Fuente the person. He’s a good man and is an honorable dude. But Justin should have spoken today. I think he misjudged the situation.

Excerpt from today talking to Whit Babcock. I don’t think anyone is asking Fuente to be Frank or Bud, but fans need to hear from him and know what the deal is. Whit may know “how much of a Hokie he is,” but how are the fans supposed to know that?

A statement along the lines of, “Baylor presented an intriguing opp. to coach at a good program near my family and my home state, but the program, the fan base and the players at Virginia Tech are too great to leave,” would help.

I asked AD Whit Babcock why Justin Fuente isn't speaking to the media today and if he thought fans would like to hear from him: "They might. That's why I'm doing this. ... I just felt like I could be the messenger today."

It’s great that Whit is talking, but Justin should talk as well.

Babcock said that Fuente told Baylor this morning that he was not interested. Unclear if it ever got to the offer stage.

How was the prospect of having to go through a coaching search sitting with Babcock? "Not much fun." Said he had a physical coming up and his blood pressure was a little high.
