One thing I'd add. There's a fetish for righteous violence abroad in British politics: it's all "crush the saboteurs", "punch a Nazi", "smash x", clenched fist salutes & WW2 nostalgia. Politics might be kinder if people stopped casting themselves as heroes in a holy war.

In Iran, if a 12 year old girl is raped, she must carry & birth her rapists baby. If she tries to have an abortion, she can be sentenced to life in prison. Did I say Iran, sorry, that’s Northern Ireland, UK .

Presumably because the President of the United States would then have called them “very stupid guys” and they’d have had to agree to replace themselves.

New Zealand-born Ben Stokes and Barbadian Jofra Archer. But, yeah, immigration is the single biggest threat to society and must be curved at all costs. Roll on Brexit 🙄

The editor of Answers magazine often made fun of the peculiar letters he received from readers, particularly those who also submitted articles for consideration. I particularly like this one! - Answers (1890)

Wow. and agree backstop can't be improved by putting time limit on it or obtaining unilateral right to exit from it. They say it has to be totally scrapped. Which most EU leaders will see as both adopting the short cut to no-deal Brexit.

We are urged by a notice beside the pond at Castletown House in the county Kildare not to feed bread to the ducks but to offer then halved seedless grapes instead. Do they think they (and we) are living in Herbert Park in Dublin 4?

1/7 Really looking forward to reading ’s Insurgent Empire, even more after reading Miles Taylor’s fine review. But I was irritated by Taylor’s odd, glib mention of George Orwell & JA Hobson at the start & end of the piece…

A maths meme that is actually funny rather than stupid: Solve carefully! 230 - 220 x 0.5 = You probably won’t believe it but the answer is 5!

Yes, but it may also be a proxy for “Would you like Boris Johnson to resign by 31 October?”
