Trafod yr angen i Lywodraeth Prydain a Llywodraeth Cymru ymateb ar frys i gyhoeddiad gohirio Wylfa gyda’r wasg cenedlaethol heddiw. Rhaid i Lywodraeth Cymru a’r DU weithredu camau pendant i warchod economi Ynys Môn yn sgil penderfyniad i ohirio datblygiad Wylfa Newydd.

I am not a fan of nucleaur power per se. This is however devastating news for the Island, particularly with the apparent lack of other investment opportunities. There is a need for politicians of all hues to start talking and quickly. Anglesey could be the energy Island.

We have other exciting projects on Anglesey, including in the renewables energy sector and the Menai Science Park. But it’s the sheer scale of Wylfa with over 800 long terms, well-paid jobs, that would leave a gaping hole if this suspension does ends up being long term.

I’ve already pressed for urgent action from Welsh Gov. Tabling an urgent question in the Assembly yesterday, I made the case for further and significant investment in skills, infrastructure and attracting new economic activity to Anglesey, especially the north of the island.

That’ll be my message to the Secretary of State for Wales to pass on to the Prime Minister and his Cabinet colleagues in a telephone meeting scheduled for this morning.

Now we have to look at ways of moving forward. UK Government has to show if it’s serious about backing Wylfa. Their actions so far have delivered little.

My thoughts this morning are with the large number of staff and apprentices already employed by the Wylfa Newydd project on Anglesey. It’s a very worrying time for them. But I’m thinking also about those who’ve pinned their hopes on future employment there.

Thanks for that. I was in the chamber, and as the whip reminded fellow members about the guidance over which way we were voting (for) before pressing the button myself (as the video of rhe vote will show). I will seek an explanation about why the vote wasn’t registered.

VICTORY. ✊The National Assembly for Wales has tonight voted in favour of the Plaid Cymru motion to reject an exit from the European Union with no deal under any circumstances. ❎

No deal? Gosh - every poll shows v little support for that. But if that’s what you want, I respect your opinion. We can’t just go for that without asking if it’s what people want tho’ - too much at stake, and it wasn’t on the cards during referendum - it’s a political failure.
