I heard of an excellent case where a company separated the marketing team from sales and put them together with operations and IT. Their results were way better when not linked to or mandated by sales.

That goes without saying, but unfortunately it needs to be said!

I really like what you guys are doing Armando. Going from studies to actual practice is where things go off track, unfortunately.

We need show better practices and share those in case studies and conferences to provide a benchmark that elevates standards.

We need better standards. Teach marketing in wine differently. Use the appropriate terminology AND question people's qualifications, fact checking and opinions. Give less air space to opinionated/no-evidence marketers and listen more to those who are putting results on the table.

Marketing has an overall bad perception in the wine industry and unfortunately good marketers don't get rewarded nor do they have a better recognition. On the contrary, they tend to be unseen by the noise of nonsense there is in current .

Twitter, help me solve a problem. I need to hire a social media writer who specializes in working with SaaS companies. I would prefer to hire a woman or POC. Recommendations and retweets, please oh please!

2/2 need to be top of mind. That's what marketers need to report back on. At that level, most of the social media metrics become irrelevant, and we start looking at the bigger picture, with clearer objectives/strategy/tactics AND results. The framing of this process is key.

Answering questions "How will this campaign/promo/rebranding/etc increase sales?" Or "Show me how your output is actually bringing $/€/£ to our company" or "Can you prove that the last awareness building campaign actually worked?" and other questions of the same type need 1/2

Marketing has many marketing problems. Short-termed tactics, strategy-less, buzzword galore, research and insight-free decisions, chasing the fake, no balance between brand building and sales activation, "who is the consumer again?", my list could go on...

Often the biggest impediment to successful marketing is actually the total lack of knowledge of the basics of marketing by the people saying they are marketers.

Yes, but also there needs to be a broader understanding that the results in good old offline marketing come with time. This means tracking results after at least 6 months to 1 year. In this short-termed crazy times, that kind of reporting is not always effective with management.

Yes. We discussed this exact topic w , , Chris Swonger, and Taotao Xing at 's Fine Minds for Fine Wine Think Tank in Bordeaux at our panel "When Fine Wine is Alcohol". The topic is so important for all of us to keep talking about!

"Testimonial" or "endorsement" is how we called this back in the pre-influencer times.

This chart focuses on "influencer marketing" so I wouldn'tworry too much about it. The question I have, instead, is why aren't marketers worried about delivering proper work with clear and measurable results by applying the basics of marketing strategy?
