Hello, thanks for all the wonderful work you do! I was hoping to pick your brain about the Red Death. Is the creature in HTTYD1 an individual named the Red Death? Is it a species name? How are the Green Deaths in the games related to the Red Death? Thanks!

Thank you! In the case of HTTYD 1, the Red Death is both the breed name AND character name, since it’s the only one of its kind that we see in the film.

If it had stuck around longer — or if we had seem more RDs — I’m sure we’d have given it a suitably horrifying character name, too. Any suggestions?

As far as its relationship to the Green Death, think of them as “cousins” from a larger species — sort of like Gronckles and Hotburples.

but personally I would consider the Gronckle and Hot Burple as separate but closely related species (in the same Genus). Or are you meaning the Red/Green Deaths are diff subspecies/race/breed/population/variety of same species (also called Red Death)? Ahhh taxonomy :)

Uh, yeah, what you said! Dean would often refer to Hotburples and Gronckles as cousins informally, but you’re correct — two closely related species in the same genus. Same goes for the Red/Green Death.

Can we assume the Green Death is also a Stoker class then, like the Red Death? Thanks so much for your responses, I appreciate it :) I might plague you with other questions in the future, sorry!

Yes, definitely Stoker. I think that’s the official designation we gave the Red Death in the “To Berk and Beyond” book. Although that species list is probably due for an update...

The Red Death in HTTYD was a Titan Wing, and the Green (and Crimson) Death have the same design, does that mean they are Titans, too? Also Foreverwings, how big are they supposed to be, and are they Titans? (Especially in The Serpent's Heir)

Yes, all Titan Wings, including the Foreverwings from . Come to think of it, we’ve never seen Hatchling or Broad Wing versions of these dragons yet. Hmm...
