I didn't know Colin Ward very well. He was a fixture at Rhinoceropolis, probably the center of DIY art in Denver. I didn't -- and don't -- know the DIY community in Denver very well. Here's a nice Westword article on Ward from 2015.

. shares memories of Denver multimedia artist Colin Ward, who died last week at the age of 27. "He inspired many of us who were more than a decade older than him, while legions of young art weirdos followed him in a parade of gratitude."

Probably my favorite piece of the show is this work, The Commutation of Distances, by Libby Barbee, who does awesome collage work but also very cool installation work. This is an exercise bike hooked gears that spin rotating panels set in between other panels of landscapes!

Other really beautiful pieces I loved at RedLine's 10x show were this glamorous gold installation by the wonderful Sarah Rockett and these paintings by Alvin Gregorio and Daisy Patton, who is one of my very favorite people and artists in Denver.

But one thing that's interesting about RedLine is the way it's always encouraging its artists to push boundaries. So you also have some great installation work by Theresa Clowes, Kenzie Sitterud, Jonathan Saiz, and Jodi Stuart, who is another artist I love as a person.

RedLine's 10x event shows a wide variety of work. There are some beautiful paintings, including some great work by Jaime Carrejo, Zach Reini, Derrick Velasquez, and Margaret Neumann, whom I adore as a person, and whose art is always just fabulous.

RedLine Denver is my favorite art institution in Denver. It's a gallery space & a studio space. But there is a focus on training the artists in the studio space to be engaged in the community & in the business of art. The space itself also acts as a center for the community.

Denver's many circles of DIY and arts cultures overlap and intertwine and blur. We r mourning the loss of an integral creative spirit, who so playfully danced among the circles, ignoring all the lines. Colin Ward, we love you and we live you. 🌿🙌
