My bet is that there won't be as much traffic on the gateway for popular archives since the WebRTC connections have priority. But I'm not sure how it'll scale term πŸ˜…

So in this case it's a public gateway, so users don't have to install anything locally that could be attacked. Any private keys stay on the page in indexeddb or whatever other persistence you'd want.

Also we've been talking about making a different kind of gateway that doesn't have the ability to see what archives you're actually loading by using my discovery-swarm-stream library

Yeah, I totally agree. Sadly browsers aren't giving us too much of a choice. Luckily I've made it so that the gateway is used as a secondary source. If a WebRTC peer exists, it'll be used first.

I made a thing. πŸ˜€ This uses the work I'm doing on dat-js to load content from archives using either WebRTC or a websocket gateway. This is a proof of concept and I'm still playing around with performance and the API.

Yeah, I'm setting the tracker blocking in Firefox to strict, hopeful that helps. I've been using Duck Duck Go for a while now and I love it. Sometimes the results aren't as useful as Google though. πŸ˜…

Excited to announce that I've been given a short term grant from the project to work on the web! My goal is to make it easier to use Dat on the web and on mobile. Read more about it here:

Finished transitioning to Firefox for everything except social media. Gonna make their tracking more annoying by never signing in.

I'd prefer importing dependencies from the URLs they're published under. It'll be better for caching across sites.

Offline-first dweb GMaps alternative, wow! Super exciting project. The team is amazing, and they have a ton of experience & supporting code built for their production-tested desktop app already, so this is not some random crypto vaporware. Can't wait!

VCs calling intentionally bootstrapped and slower growing companies a β€œlifestyle business” are offensive, discredit hard work and perpetuate the myth of exponential, β€œunicorn” growth as the only way run an organisation. Don’t listen.

Math beaniebabies were still only worth $100, after the great crash of 2019. People still scream HODL and computers still scream numberwang at each other.
