My uni will offset some of my visa costs -- but only mine, not those of my family; and only the basic cost and not the cost of expedition needed b/c I can't be w/o my passport for 6-8 weeks; AND I pay taxes on the money they give me towards the cost.

Pretty much the same here. I’m 40, can’t afford a house, but have a shiny plastic biometric card that I had to save 10+% of my take home salary for 5 years to obtain. Thanks for nothing
