If America’s household wealth were a pie, here’s how it would be divided up:
9 slices to the wealthy
0.8 of a slice to the upper middle class
0.2 of a slice to the middle class
0.03 of a slice to the lower middle class
And the poor owe pie

And the wealthy have convinced the middle class that it’s the lower class (and poor) who have stolen their piece of the pie.

And convinced the lower class (and poor) that it's the immigrants who have stolen their piece of the pie.

Only thing the video misses us correcting the gentleman's assumption that hard work is the primary driver for wealth instead of inheritance.

@RBReich -- Where's the follow-up video that shd immediately follow the one you posted? The one making the case that the top 1% aren't even paying their fair share of taxes - to help support the society that helped make them so rich? Also compare 1%er tax rates over the decades.

I wish the video had also shown the wealth distribution 30, 40, 50... years ago. Then ask the yacht guy to explain how the wealthy got to their current position by sheer hard work and good virtue alone.

How much of the wealthiest income was inherited? It’s not about hard work, many of the poor work very hard, it’s about belonging to a rich family and getting richer.

How did the US correct from the robber barons of the late 19th century?

By implementing anti-trust laws that are largely being ignored now, inheritance taxes, and highly progressive income taxes. The right is trying to do away with all of those.
