From humble start as an ice cream parlour won in a poker game; Benny’s Market in Strathcona turns 100 this Sunday - there’ll be bands, block party & Benedettis for a BBBBQ to celebrate! Grateful for this awesome corner store, late Mr Benny, and slice of Vancouver history 🇮🇹

We did it! Vancouver becomes first city in Canada to include animal welfare in procurement policies! Like sustainability and fair trade, taxes should be spent on services that do good. Big kudos to and Kim Buksa!

Interesting/news to me. I did download the XLS data for current year & 2018 - indeed 'short-term rental' license types have neither names nor addresses for them. would it be possible to email me an old (not redacted) data set (as xls) if you have one? I will inquire.

Animal welfare is now part of procurement and supplier code of conduct policies! From a motion I brought forward in spring, w/ unanimous support of mayor/council and help from Gratitude. 🐶🐮🐷🐰🐭🐱

Agree. Our 30kmph resolution passed in the Spring will see staff report back this Fall on some pilot locations, and support at UBCM has been pretty strong for asking the Prov. govt to amend the MVA to allow cities to set default speed limits

I don’t know when ⁦⁩ last sported this whimsical dog wearing headphones mascot! (a news hound? Doggedly pursuing a story?) but I’m guessing this is from its days as C K New Westminster in the 50s-60s * spotted in Langley antique store, on a canvas folding chair

Pride🏳️‍🌈: what a party and high point for our city and community! For me: Hundreds of high fives and hugs, a few dance-offs, two outfit changes, tens of thousands of happy pride-ful Vancouverites, and according to my phone over 15 k walking / dancing the West End (twice!) 💃🏻🌈🎉♥️

Powell Street Festival today and tomorrow - it’s 42nd year of celebrating culture in Vancouver - the new locations along Alexander and surrounding streets in response to Oppenheimer Park encampments is great, maybe even better than the park! ⁦

Agree. Over 1 million butts a day littered in Vancouver alone - cellulose acetate filtered linger in waterway leeching toxins.. a national EPR, IMO with deposits on butts (say 5c ea) could solve problem
