Clear from current events that most of our leading politicians have that maturity, but it's defeated in normal times by idiotically confrontational parliamentary practices that reflect a strong measure of outside control by increasingly despicable, unelected constituencies

Difference is we'd likely have a flu vaccine out there by now, and it's not showing the seasonal variation we usually associate with flu.

That makes sense, but it is a more cohesive and uniform society than Australia.

Any democratic system is in danger if voters choose to be ignorant & can be swayed by fear/hate-filled populist rhetoric, basic institutions (like the parliament) don't do their job & business leaders back would-be dictators. That's why we need an independent, free commentariat.

Likely, and the Jenner vaccine will only go ahead if regulators find that it has at least 50% efficacy and is safe. If it does roll-out fast in countries where COVID-19 is very active, that will be an even bigger test before any vaccine is likely to be in widespread use here.

Could be that a spectrum of vaccines will be out there. My guess is the UQ vaccine will be better than the Jenner & it would make a lot of sense to take a number of vaccines through to completion. They target much the same thing so could prime with one, boost later with another.

That's too incestuous for my liking, and governments change during a GGs term. A model where a narrow, authoritarian PM who appoints a like-minded authoritarian GG has inherent dangers.

Nothing is without risk. It's all a relative risk equation & that risk is different for the under 60's & the elderly. Narcolepsy was linked to an egg-grown protein subunit flu vaccine and a squalene-based adjuvant. Current COVID vaccines are very different. Up to the regulators
