I spent all of school and uni trying to take notes in streams of words like I saw everyone else doing, and with all that effort my retention of knowledge was terrible! Was only when I studied as an adult and took notes 'my way' that my learning was effective!

Look forward to reading this. Creative flow can bring focus and calm too - and drawing & mindfulness seem to be one and the same sometimes!

Sounds interesting. There are so many ways we can integrate the arts better into the curriculum. Paintings and 3D work can be stimulus for writing in so many ways, drawing is useful as a note taking device and can help us process information, creative thinking.etc.etc.

Me: How's the art and creativity? Him: Art(laughs)!? No school has time or money for it. I haven't taught it once this year.

Spoke with a primary teacher friend yesterday, he's been doing supply across London and been in year 5 as supply all this year.

This is such a timely theme. Many schools are focusing on wellbeing but aren't necessarily making the link between creativity and health! We need to speak more about creative 'flow' and how it's worthwhile even if it can't be measured!

My sketchbook for practical demos. The children love gathering round to see how to use materials and techniques. Makes a nice change from sitting in seats looking at the whiteboard (which has its own time and place)
