The man responsible for preparing the PSNI for Brexit is . He says police are planning for the worst, hoping for the best. But the terrorists are also preparing for Brexit and will try to capitalise on public disorder.

There are many dangers in deploying English police officers to patrol the border in Ireland. The local PSNI inspector told accidentally crossing over that border and causing a diplomatic incident is just one potential pitfall in that area.

The surprising thing to me about this is that there is clearly still a hard border between NI and Ireland. It may move, but police with guns checking cars is a hard border.

It’s a police vehicle check for licence & insurance in an area close to the border. Not on the border.

So why can’t they do that post Brexit for people and smuggling?

If you read the article it explains. They need a small army for basic vehicle checks as they’re endangered when they try to operate. They can’t stay static for long or people will try to kill them. So how do you monitor & control 330+ crossing points 24/7?

1.Thanks for clarifying.I had watched on news but hadn’t read article. 2.I grew up as a forces child under the cloud of the IRA, having to check under car etc and understand the complexity 3.I did vote leave but would’ve accepted the backstop to negate the hard border 4...

4.I also don’t think the the UK should have to be in the EU forever because of the border issue. Trade should be discussed prior to leaving then the NI problem would be minimised. EU is irresponsible for not allowing this. 6...

6. I find it hard to believe that there isn’t some IT that can be developed / utilised to solve this issue with not too much time. 7. Ultimately, in my view, this issue is due to separation of divorce and trade. Marry the two and NI border may not be an issue.

Forgive me if this is brash, but if you listen to the Chief & Deputy Chief Constables in NI, then a local inspector, and you choose to disbelieve them on the ‘IT solutions’ that’s up to you. However, imagining something vague ‘must exist’ doesn’t make it so. Where is it?
