Plenty of VFL interest in Dandenong Stingrays premiership co-captain and midfielder Campbell Hustwaite. Collingwood is particularly keen on the left-footer as he weighs up moving to a stand-alone or AFL club....

Have to admire Gary Ayres. Has coached Port Melbourne since 2008 and he’s still hustling, working the phones, meeting prospective players, trying to build his list for 2019. And he’ll dance a merry jig down Bay St if he can land Jarryd Blair.

Good signing for Frankston VFL in Aaron Darling from the Dandenong Stingrays. Missed the premiership after sustaining knee and shoulder injuries in the same game early in the season. Former AIS Academy member and the cousin of Eagle Jack.

How about Richard Saniga yesterday? At the age of 51 he opened the bowling for club Endeavour Hills against Box Hill, bowled 26 overs and took 7-44. He’s a marvel.

And there’s a century for Melbourne CC captain Matthew Brown, his first in since his masterly 134no in the 2016-17 grand final. He’s known some frustrations since then but he’s a class act.
