Hmm, that might be the case then, since Gregor hasn't been penalized for it anyway. That makes some sense, though does make starting blocs easier if you can just plop your limbs anywhere on the holds! Kinda defeats the point IMO :p

I thought the whole point of the start holds was to start on those holds exactly? Otherwise where is the line? Seems blurred to me...

Well done, Alex! But severely disappointed with the competition today. Take a look at Gregor's M2 boulder, one valid start first attempt, all attempts after not valid ( both feet and left hand on left volume, before bringing his right foot over) [1]
