So true—but also so much easier to agree in principle than to implement in practice. We swoon to the rhetoric of open-mindedness but our true love is the comfy familiarity of closed-mindedness

this is particularly true in the investment management business. Nearly all pro investors are very aware of cognitive biases and decision making research, yet few actually put in place anything to pragmatically address these issues.

There is a good deal of virtue-signaling without making an effort to put to practice. Expertise stays pretty much within its own class & status. Of course, there are exceptions too.

It is how our brains are wired. Things we learned in the past get relegated to more automatic functions. New learning is hard, especially as we get older. This is why older people have more concrete thinking and a harder time with nuance and are subsequently easier to defraud.

I totally disagree with that assumption. I find it much easier to pull the wool over younger people eyes then older people. Stupid people are stupid people. Weather they are young or old. You are saying that experience is not relevant.

A Bay Area philosopher shared how proud he is he introduced philosophy classes to Google engineers. When I suggested he include female Asian philosophy in his classes and not just the Aristotle lineage ... He blocked me. *
