A sign of things to come: the alt-right and the Tory Party are going to become ever closer allies.

Remember, the left. The right can say whatever they like about you in a British media they almost entirely control. But if you use a public forum like twitter to challenge, scrutinise or criticise the right, that’s bullying. Sorry, I don’t make the rules.

(That should have read late *17th* century onwards, of course). Astonishing fact: The Economist magazine backed the Confederacy in the American Civil War because of access to cheap cotton "and fear of higher tariffs if the North triumphed". ()

I completely disagree you here. Tory Remainers have already voted for a party which tried to fight the 2017 general election as a Hard Brexit party, and they fear Corbyn much more than Brexit anyway. 3 points in seats like Battersea is a big deal.

I'm not a communist, Daniel, so this doesn't make any sense. I'm a socialist with a critique of capitalism.

It really doesn’t need to be a significant chunk. We’re in a poliarised political situation, just 3% could stuff Labour. Labour has 40%ish of the vote, it’s impossible for that to be a politically homogenous chunk of the electorate.

It's my general experience that the Left is pretty reflective and critical of the legacies of Stalinism &c; capitalists, on the other hand, treat capitalism's history of expropriation, starvation, slavery as natural phenomena with no causal basis.

I’m not “attention seeking”, I’m articulating my beliefs. Why are you so utterly obsessed with inventing ulterior motives of people you disagree with? And actually bother answering - I have to stop arguing with people who have bad faith and nothing else.

If there really are Labour MPs plotting a new political party, the question is are they really delusional enough to think it could achieve anything other than stopping Labour coming to power and keeping the Tories in - or is that actually the plan?

If I was on the Tory Right, I’d be praying morning, noon and night for a new “centrist” party. They know it’d crash and burn, but not before it took enough votes off Labour to keep the Tories in power under Theresa May’s more right wing successor.
