Socialist, anti-fascist, Guardian columnist, author, owner of 2 ridiculous cats, losing my Northern accent with every passing day. Sad.

My message to staff, NEC and PLP this morning. I’m feeling very positive thanks to our brilliant NHS. Only Labour will end privatisation and outsourcing and improve our health service for everyone.

Scientists: “We have 12 years to avert catastrophic climate change.” Fossil fuel firms: “Let’s spend $200 million a year lobbying to block action on climate change.” Future generations will be astonished that we ever tolerated this madness.

has 'seeped into the public consciousness' as British Far-Right movement grows, polling shows - and it's significantly worse amongst Conservative Party voters. Why is the Party attracting anti-Muslim bigots?

How can someone be Foreign Secretary, take themselves seriously as possible PM or even be a lead columnist on the Daily Telegraph and still think that there will be an implementation period without a deal? Here are the final 2 pars of Boris Johnson’s column this morning. Amazing.

With Mueller done, we are in a new era, where the Trump-Russia conspiracy theory is no longer sustainable & thus no longer able to define the Resistance. That's a crushing defeat for those who peddled it, but for the rest of us, it's a victory: we can now have a real opposition.

1946-1980: Virtually everybody in the U.S. saw their post-tax income double, apart from the very wealthy. 1980-2014: Almost half the population failed to register any growth in their income at all, while the top 1% have enjoyed extraordinary growth

I don’t really know why this is so controversial? Polling shows most people support public ownership and higher taxes on the rich; most self described “centrists” don’t support these things, ergo...

Is calling someone a leftist, or a socialist, or a conservative, othering people? There are different political traditions and factions, that’s just basic political reality.

It's not a defence of Putin's vile regime to point out that it isn't the puppetmaster behind anything in politics which defied the trends of a previous era.

My argument here is that when "centrists" started to suffer political setbacks as the post-crash austerity and squeeze in living standards had political consequences - from Sanders to Trump, Brexit to Corbyn - they began to rely on conspiracy theories, like Russia, to explain it.

I don't think they represent the centre ground of political opinion so therefore I think calling them "centrists" is misleading but there's a lack of an alternative clear descriptor for their politics.

The future of humanity depends on the defeat of Trump. But that is a *political* problem. It's not a weird glitch in space and time, not an administrative error, not a conspiracy directed by a foreign power, not something to be won in the courts. It needs an inspiring alternative

Russia is ruled by a vile authoritarian right-wing regime which inspires right-wing populists. But because so-called "centrists" believed political phenomena they didn't like defied political gravity - like Trump or Brexit - there had to be a sinister explanation.

The Third Way, "centrists", whatever you want to call them, dominated the 1990s. After the crash, their politics no longer made sense. Rather than debate why and ask themselves searching questions, they decided to blame their setbacks on anyone but themselves: notably, Russia.

The whole point of public services is to put people first. The whole point of private businesses is to make profit. Flogging off public services to profiteers is an epic failure and ending it is basic commonsense.

Tory councillors suspended over Islamophobia - including describing Saudis as "sand peasants" and comparing Asian people to dogs - have been quietly reinstated. From Windrush to Orban to Zac Goldsmith's campaign, the Tories are a cesspit of racism.
