In the past, asylum seekers could wait for their day in court in the United States. But the new policy requires that many return to Mexico and wait there. Around 9,000 migrants have been sent back to Mexico under the policy.

All this week, is reporting along the southern border between El Paso, Texas and Juárez, Mexico — looking at how a Trump administration policy known as Remain in Mexico affects people in these communities. One of our first stops was a shelter in Juárez.

Excruciating from in Juarez, Mexico: Mother and son fled gangs in Honduras, sought US asylum. US border agents gave them papers they can't read, sent them back into Mexico. Also rejected at a shelter, they pay $4/night for a mattress on a basement floor.
