2/ In my experience it’s pretty rare to find brands that intentionally use dark patterns or coercive design to manipulate users. The difficulty is knowing where the line is, especially w regards to tracking user data to personalise w/o consent.

1/ Hey Paul! Most brands I’ve come across tend to care about delivering value to their customers, and see the benefit in using psychological principles to enhance a the UX (as opposed to dupe users to achieve short term goals).
