A man arrested for trying to rape a woman in a Brooklyn train station was in jail for almost a year before the state’s new bail reform laws allowed him to go free and commit more crimes, the Daily News has learned.

FEARMONGERING LIE: This man could have remained detained under new bail law. But @NYDailyNews so desperate to sensationalize, they mislead. He was jailed for 2 felonies. Under the new law, bail could have remained on his first case based on his rearrest. Nothing to do w/ reform.

The 20 y/o was first arrested in July 2018. He paid bail. He was then rearrested in December 2018 on a felony charge. Under the new law, he could have had bail set based on the alleged commission of a felony while released on another matter even after January 1, 2020.

Exactly. The headline here is "man jailed for a year without a speedy trial."

Why wasn’t he put on trial within that year he sat in jail is the question.

I think the outrage here should be that he was held, without trial or conviction- FOR OVER A YEAR
