¡Victoria para nuestra ciudad! Today a U.S. District Court judge ordered the Census Bureau to extend the census count until Oct. 31. This is a win for NYC and gives us another month to get a full count. My statement with & :

Outdoor dining has been one of the major successes of the past few months, and the Council is proud to have led the charge to make this common-sense measure permanent. We are grateful Mayor de Blasio heard our calls and is taking action on this important issue.

We need more information in order to determine whether our already underserved students received educational content of a lesser quality, thus exacerbating already vast educational disparities across our city:

When schools closed months ago, many of us worried that our most vulnerable students would slip through the cracks. And we don't even have the info we'd need to assess which students may be falling further behind. That's why the just subpoenaed the DOE for this data.

This is not justice. Breonna Taylor should be alive today. This is not the accountability she and her family deserve.

Outdoor dining has been one of the big successes of the past few months. We just announced we’re hearing a bill at the Council to make it permanent. The bill would also allow restaurants to use heat lamps outside—something they can’t do right now.

Mr. President, you failed Puerto Ricans in their time of need. You ignored their cries for help when they needed food, water, and shelter in the wake of Maria’s devastating destruction. This aid is three years late and no one is fooled by the timing. 4/4

But like we always do, New York stepped up to help our neighbors. Many colleagues and I went to survey the damage and provide assistance firsthand. It was an honor to help in a small way. And then we have the president. 2/

Three years ago this week, Hurricane María made landfall on Puerto Rico and devastated Puerto Ricans for weeks and months that followed. Even now, recovery is still incomplete. There's no question: We as a nation failed Puerto Ricans—fellow Americans—in a time of dire need. 1/

The federal government must serve the people of this country—including New Yorkers. Cutting funding to New York City, one of the nation's most vital economic engines, is dumb as it is cruel. We must fight this misguided attack from the Trump administration.

begins today. Sadly, we are already seeing the devastating impacts of climate change. This passed the Climate Mobilization Act, one of the most ambitious legislative packages ever to fight climate change. Tomorrow we'll have a hearing to expand it.
