A record low of 9 degrees was set at Evansville Indiana this morning. The previous record was 14 set in 1986. The record low of 10 degrees was tied at Paducah Kentucky. It was previously set in 1986.

If you're up early this morning, temperatures are in the single digits in a large part of the area. Evansville has already set a new record low of 9 degrees. Wear extra layers if you'll be outside!

When we saw that Evansville was trending, we assumed it had to be because everyone was excited about the record low temperatures there.

Right before midnight, the temperature at Evansville fell to 11 degrees, and at Paducah it fell to 12 degrees. These are both new record low temperatures for November 12th.

Started noticing a lot of the now former record lows for Nov 12 were from the year 1911. Yeah, we had weather maps back then. And they're pretty cool. Check it out!

Tonight's bitter cold will cause any melted snow on roads and bridges to freeze. Be especially careful on untreated side roads and bridges. Give yourself extra time for the commute Wednesday morning.

In Paducah, we had never recorded subfreezing highs this early in the season. This was a historic early season cold outbreak.

You lived through a bit of history today. High temps had never been this cold so early in the season on record. Even in Evansville, where records date back to 1897, they had never observed a high temp below 28 before Nov 12.

Today's temperatures smashed records across the region. To put this cold into perspective, these temperatures would be about 15 degrees below normal if it were the middle of January!
