McCain remembers the anxiety he felt when he went to the restaurant that Monday afternoon and how he felt when he sat down on that stool. The sit-ins spread to lunch counters across the country — and changed history.

This protest removed the veil of ignorance my Mother wore in regards to segregation. The realization that Joseph McNeil could die beside her brother in Vietnam but couldn’t eat lunch together at Woolworth forced her to re-examine her beliefs. I’m grateful for their sacrifice.

Thank you Franklin McCain. Your courage INSPIRED others and history was made. I would happily give up my seat to you anywhere. Better yet, sit with you and buy you lunch.

Best decision they ever made. How could you even predict it would cause such a large ripple effect?
