Morning update: There is still standing water on the road from sound side flooding in Waves & Salvo. Drivers should avoid the area until the water goes back down, and monitor or call 511 for road condition updates

Hi, we have made tremendous recent progress widening NC 87 in Spring Lake near Fort Bragg and NC 210, and now we are conducting a traffic analysis to determine more roadway improvements that we can plan. We hope to announce more information sometime next year.

This photo shows sand that washed onto NC 12 in Ocracoke. Repairs to pavement are being made and a protective berm built to keep sand from washing onto the Outer Banks thoroughfare. N.C. 12 isn't open for travel on the northern part of Ocracoke Island.

weather update: Hot & humid days will remain with temps topping out in the mid to upper 80s. A small reprieve from the heat will come later this weekend as a cold front approaches Saturday. No day is expected to be a washout but localized flash flooding is possible.

Crews continue to restore the protective dunes that Hurricane Florence washed over NC 12. One section remains closed due to sand from ocean overwash and pavement damage on the northern parts of Ocracoke Island, from the Pony Pen north to the ferry dock.

The smartest decision you can make today is to not drive around barricades or road closed signs. They are in place to keep you safe! Driving around barricades is one of the leading causes of fatalities after storms. Do your part and turn around.
