Launch Abort System motors for Ascent Abort-2 flight test are integrated at @NASAKennedy. AA-2 will verify Orion's LAS can steer crew module and astronauts inside to safety in the event of issue with the launch vehicle during flight. Launch abort motors are powerful rockets in their own right. The Apollo launch abort motors provided 180% of the thrust of a Redstone rocket, albeit for a much shorter burn.

I still do not get why you do not use this test flight to test the first core stage as well. Then you will have a much clearer understanding on how that stage work and can skip EM 1.

EM-1 has other tasks to accomplish and won't need the LAS because there's no crew. You can't both test the safety system and send the capsule into deep space.
