Interestingly, @TheEconomist lists both Canada in the UK (and perhaps others I don't know about) as "Full Democracies" even though they both have appointed (NOT elected) senates. For all the US's democratic flaws, at least Americans have recourse when the senate misbehaves.

Gosh it looks like the only full democracies in the Western Hemisphere are: Canada, Costa Rica, Chile, and Uruguay.

I don't understand which criteria they use. Chile, with rampant protests that often end in brutal repression and where hundreds of protestors have lost their eyes because of police brutallity has gone from flawed to full from 2018 to 2019.

Nothing new it's been ranked "a flawed democracy" for at least two years. No, the US is not the "biggest democracy in the world" but only the second largest flawed democracy (after India).
