The Garibaldi: A gloriously golden damselfish that tends to its own garden and barks at its detractors. A more perfect fit for California's State Marine Fish may never be found.

sry darth but we gotta say many many California divers have the face nibbles to prove otherwise they're really quite grumpy and ornery and bitey darth but that's ok it's what we love about the garibaldi it's an angry goldfish fabulous and furious

the coral reefs ?! whoa now that would be a garibaldi-faced lie these fishies live in cooler temperate waters of cali and northern baja they're endemic there and live on rocky reefs not coral reefs who's spreading this disinformocean smh

indeed darth indeed many types of damselfish out there garibaldi are our own v v special one here in cali and baja but it's not a damselfish in distress it's protected and doing fine our other damselfish is the blacksmith no worries there too it just forges on ahead like its nbd

anyways monterey bay aquarium it is silly to blame fish for the destruction of the coral reef just as it is to blame otters for the abalone or sea urchin problem these are much more human problems tbh monterey bay aquarium

v true darth unless we're going with the fact that humans (and all other tetrapods) are technically sarcopterygian "fishes" like the coelacanth then yes one could blame a fish for most of the issues that corals are facing these days and that fish is us

sry darth taking a lobed-appendage stride backward so phylogenetically some "fish" are more closely related to us than to other things we call "fish" like coelacanths they have enamel on their teeth like us but unlike other "fish" so either "fish" don't exist or we are "fish"

wait coelacanths have enamel on their teeth monterey bay aquarium what madness is this also can u imagine how delighted marine biologists must have been when those reports of live coelcanths were confirmed that must have been like christmas in the ocean

oh yeah darth they were thought to be byebye gone adios finished pining for the fjords but then it turns out there were a few populations around just doing their "living fossil" thing though ok they're not "living fossils" that doesn't work more like "heirloom waterbuds"

heirloom waterbuds omfg also speaking of tooth enamel did u know dogs do not get tooth decay as much as humans because the dog saliva helps protect their teeth just another example of how great dogs are monterey bay aquarium
