Curfews present a danger to essential workers. They are an invitation to enforce discriminatorily. They should be lifted.

To all the politicians who have been silent for years as black lives have been lost to police violence, who are just deciding to speak up now: We see you.

I cannot even comprehend the level of inhumanity required to watch this happen and walk past this man bleeding on the ground and do nothing.

There’s a reason police departments look like invading armies. The Pentagon’s 1033 program has transferred at least $5.1b in military-grade equipment to local police departments since it was implemented in 1997. That program must end immediately.

It’s been a difficult week to be black in America. We are tired of having to march and protest to get justice from governments whose job is to deliver it. But I know a better world can be ours if we fight for it.

This time next year, I hope we still believe when someone tries to build affordable housing in our community. When the parents of black children try to integrate our schools. When gentrification is forcing black families out of their homes.
