Congratulations on this publication! I make a similar argument for the importance of Greek literature in a forthcoming HTR essay (as a pushback against exclusive focus on Syriac), so I'd love to read your paper.

Let's try something unusual: A while ago I made an edition of the Quran of Amajur. It's not a lot of text, and I'm not sure if it would function as a publication on its own, so instead I will publish it here, as 2 folios fit within a single tweet!

In the light of a misinformed tweet that sparked a discussion on materials used in early Qur'ans (), I thought I'd make a thread about such materials (inks and pigments), at least the ones I'm familiar with. This area is highly misunderstood,

Thread. Ancient Qur’ān scrolls 1/6. Material investigations of Qur’ān manuscripts suggest that the Qur’ān adopted the codex shape since the first centuries. However, in the Damascus collection, now kept in Istanbul Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art, there are a few exceptions.

The Nasser D. Khalili Collection is online! It gathers a large number of early Qur’ān leaves. Collected since the 1970’s, many come from the same volumes as the fragments kept in the BNF. Thus, we guess their provenance : the ‘Amr mosque in Fustat. Enjoy!

Amen. Also, for those who prepare slides, please don't stuff each page with four full paragraphs! And if you do that, please add animation so that each paragraph (!) loads individually.

An interesting rasm mistake in the modern print editions of the Quran. Q20:94 yā-bna-ʾumma/i "O son of my mother" is spelled without the initial ʾalif of ibn in print editions. This spelling is unusual, because usually alif al-waṣl is retained when precedes by prefixes.

The advance copy of my book arrived. I haven't opened it yet ... 😱(<-- me thinking of me finding a typo). But I have weighed it: 1.7 kg. Sneak preview at .

Also, the nisbah may be al-Ashʿarī instead of al-Asʿadī (the penultimate letter is not dāl).
