The MPCA today announced it will not grant Northern Metal Recycling’s request to extend the shut-down date for its shredding operations in N. Mpls. The company had agreed in a 2017 court settlement to cease shredding at the Mpls facility by August 1, 2019:

In 2014, the Tatge family dog, Copper, suddenly became very ill after fetching his tennis ball in Sherburne County’s Prairie Lake. The family rushed him to the vet, but he died. The vet thought that blue-green algae was the culprit.

MPCA is currently investigating the potential contamination of a creek in rural Winona County. It’s been reported that a semi-truck crashed, spilling diesel fuel into the creek. Local officials are on-site and are working to contain the spill.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) today announced it denied granting Water Gremlin an extension to test its pollution control equipment. As a result, Water Gremlin is subject to a $500 per day fine until it has completed its testing. (1/2)
