Two X-Men fan letters from 1976, one who thinks Chris Claremont’s new run can only be saved by jettisoning the diverse cast, the other from a woman of color glad to see herself represented in the pages of her favorite comic. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I notice how his requests regarding foreign members aren't so much 'leave the X-Men', as much as it's 'leave the X-Men and go back where you came from'. Not that he's implying anything, of course.

Outside of the general obvious ones, I'm not sure which opinion I find more appalling: his various ideas about what they should do to the characters he doesn't like or his apperent belief that Dave Cockrum is a bad artist

Dave Cockrum is one of the best designers in superhero history. I have an eternal love of the Disco Legion Of Superheroes.

The irony is, the letter was written at a time when Wolverine was such a tremendous pain in the ass that Claremont and Cockrum were considering getting rid of him. Cockrum especially disliked who Wolverine was at the time.

Dude! I was thinking the same thing. That is what was great about F4 and XM, some of the heroes do not get to hide like Batman and Superman. They do not get to choose to be a "normal" human. They are not passing, yet they sacrifice themselves time and time again for "normies".
