Chimezie Metu was third all-time in blocked shots at USC, btw. Hoped to show off defensive versatility and shooting ability in today’s draft workout with Lakers. Lakers have 25th and 47th picks in next month’s draft.

USC’s Chimezie Metu went to Lawndale High, only three miles from today’s draft workout with the Lakers in El Segundo. “It’s crazy just being in here right now,” he said, calling himself a life-long Laker fan.

Fun to interview Keita Bates-Diop (even though he went to Ohio State, not Wisconsin). He revealed he was not on social media all season. One of a kind?

Main emphasis in today’s six-player pre-draft Laker workout: Defense. It was talked about “as soon as we walked through the door,” Nevada swingman Caleb Martin said. Shooting also emphasized today.

Some of the guys who did pre-draft workouts for the Lakers posed for individual pictures afterward with Magic Johnson. There was a small line, actually.

Yessir. It’s that time again. Draft is June 21 and Lakers have 25th and 47th picks. That would be Cleveland’s and Denver’s selections in those rounds.

The always-knowledgeable gives quick rundowns on Lonzo, Kuzma, Randle, Ingram and Hart. And how many days of golf will he play in the off-season? I put the over/under at 47. He scoffed.

Magic and Pelinka seem to be okay with Lonzo’s unusual shooting style. Good release, good arch, nice backspin, Pelinka said. Added Magic: Lonzo usually missed when he was A) off-balance (feet too close together) or B) rushing his shot.

Magic also wants Lonzo Ball to be more vocal next season. “He’s got to step up into that leadership role,” Magic said. “In crucial moments, he has to say something.”

Lonzo Ball was “a master” at setting up teammates, Magic said, but more scoring is needed from him next season. “Now he has to be selfish,” Magic said. “He has to look to score.”
