Mike Gapes
This afternoon I went into the House of Commons to hand in my members pass and office and locker keys. Whilst I was eating in Portcullis House I met several defeated Labour colleagues. I hope many of them stand again and will get back. I won’t. So it’s goodbye from me.

When I had my heart surgery 4 years ago I had several blood transfusions. So its not my blood it is the blood of our diverse multiracial British community. And thanks to the NHS and our blood donors I am still here,

You’re a man of real political courage and integrity, Mike. Always have been. If only some others could say the same.

You lived your principles at a huge price. Our democracy is worse for not having you as a representative. Yet the action you took has been vindicated and deeply appreciated. At the darkest time, you shone a light. Thank you.

Mike. I am proud to have served in Parliament with you and to count you as a friend. Labour and Parliament are poorer without you. I feel angry and ashamed that we couldn’t keep you in Labour. Good luck with what comes next. X

Mike Gapes is a man who had the integrity to put his head above the parapet and call out the toxicity seen in the Labour Party. He and (also AMAZING) being interviewed by is where lesson can be learnt and the ‘period of reflection’ could start.
