Stay past the credits of Little Women to see Jane Eyre step out of the shadows and tell Jo, “I’m putting a team together.”

Let's be very clear, panpsychism may be pretty out there, but there's a reason people aren't even taking the time to make fun of disjunctivism

IIRC Avicenna thought people couldn't be reincarnated because bodies are already going to have souls so then the body you got reincarnated into would have two souls. Not quite the same view but in the ballpark

On the one hand, awesome, been thinking they should make this adaptation for a while (though would prefer a miniseries to a movie, also “popular” is a stretch). On the other, this was a very confusing headline.

To be clear: I believe that sincere pain reports are caused by mental states that are real and of serious moral concern. I've never denied this, and I don't know any illusionist who has. (If you know of one, please send me the reference!)

Are there any well-known philosophers you have never read bc they have a reputation for being difficult, life is short, and you think I don't work on this anyway? For me it's Hegel. Maybe it's totally worth it, but I'm daunted and I lack motivation.

Every year I tell my students to avoid opening their papers with "From the dawn of....", and I just realized that at the beginning of Chapter 1 of Utilitarianism, Mill's second sentence is "From the dawn of philosophy, the question concerning the summum bonum..." 🤷‍♂️
