Ajay has been released!!!! Thank you to everyone who signed the petition. Gurjat, however, remains detained. ICE said if he eats he will also be released, but he has failed to get that promise in writing.

Ajay writes about the force-feeding: "...the nurse took out a long tube & the doctor said, 'Eat or we will insert this in your nose.' I refused & they started inserting the tube. I was bleeding from my nose and mouth...The I.C.E. Officers standing by were laughing at me..."

Freedom for Immigrants wants to model what a world without detention will look like. This is why we created our sponsorship program, which places asylum seekers with qualified host families as an alternative to detention.

"While in custody, he learned that his father had died at the hands of his persecutors in India." But the immigration judge denied asylum. "When I was ordered to go back or deported, I was under heavy stress because it confirmed that if I go back I will be tortured to death."

ICE has yet to release the two Indian asylum seekers who have surpassed 70 days on a hunger strike. If released, they will stop their hunger strike and can begin to recuperate. If not, they will soon die. There is no reason ICE needs to detain them.

Private prisons like the one we featured on will soon be obsolete in CA if signs . Advocates & groups like played a crucial role in both crafting this bill & ensuring the stories of people jailed by ICE are heard.

Sign the petition to demand that ICE release two Indian asylum seekers. They have been on a hunger strike for 73 days and have lost the strength to walk.
