Sabathia is perfect for that David Cone circa 2000 role where he can come in and get that one big out (i.e. World Series v. Piazza). Iffy on him starting. But the will NEVER take him out of the rotation. He has a Coach K lifetime deal.

I'll take the 4 championships over the past 17 years to the Yankees' zero.

Also, the worst nightmare is the Giants and Nationals being in the wild card race, which is why you can't ignore your rotation needs in the winter and just sit back and hope certain targeted players will be available at the deadline.

No reason not to sign Keuchel either. That's just negligence at this point. Could've solved half the problem without giving up anything other than money. The problem is I think they're too tied to Sabathia and Happ financially to replace them with mid-season acquisitions.

It's questionable whether the can beat Houston without any rotation upgrades. But are there any out there? Their best bet may be to go all out to get home-field advantage in the playoffs and just ride the offense and bullpen as far as they will take them.

Cashman has 10 days to figure this out. Where is Severino? Is he going to pitch at all this year or are they going to keep blowing smoke up our rear-ends? What's their game plan? There's too much talent offensively to keep running cab drivers out to the mound every day / night.

Four of the five starters have ERAs over 4.00. The Astros have three starters with ERAs below 4.00, including Verlander at 2.99, and will also be in the market for a starter, which is scary considering they beat the Yankees to the punch on Verlander and Gerrit Cole.

The problem with the is acquiring 1 starter does little to fix their problems. Sabathia, Happ and Paxton don't belong on the mound in October. You're basically working with Tanaka, a great playoff pitcher, and German, an enigma soaring past his career high in IP.

Amazing how Boone punted games saving his A+ relievers (for what, I don't know) but is lining up his bullpen murder's row down five runs.

Paxton is another example of how the Bronx is the place promising pitchers go to die.

I swear you almost never see a guy hit one out on the next pitch after narrowly missing one down the foul line like that. Wish there was a stat on that.

Overheard on : David Cone: "Plate discipline doesn't slump." *Gardner swings at a ball at his face* Cone: "Another Yankee swinging at a pitch out of the zone." 🤔
