One of the Lib Dems’ big problems nowadays is that there are very few by-elections any more, especially in Tory seats where they most of their famous gains in the 1970s, ‘80s & ‘90s. Conservative MPs never die these days.

It's not just Russian diplomats who've been banned from the Conservative conference. The Pro-Remain group Best for Britain say their applications for three passes for the conference have just been rejected, and they've been told their application fees of £600+ will be returned.

No time? You’re joking. There were 23 days between May calling election in 18 April 2017 and close of nominations on 11 May. Yes, 23 days.

So how come Conservatives & Ukip managed to give their local members some say in picking candidates? Anyway, I thought Labour was on a “war footing”, expecting a snap election ever since T May became PM in July 2016

Interestingly, I don’t think Lab members in Canterbury had any role at all in Rosie Duffield’s initial selection in 2017. Like Jared O’Mara, she was one of 36 cands elected MPs after being picked for target seats by an NEC panel, with no interview, speech, or say by local party
