I don't know exactly what these Chelsea fans were shouting, but there is something ghastly about the way we think it's okay to shout any kind of abuse at players when they approach the crowd. If it's racist it's terrible but why do we accept it at all?

No, but media could easily say “ticket sale” rather than attendance, or say “claimed attendance”

Well, if they’re being honest they should give out the fire brigade figure. Whenever the “attendance” figure is given, in the 75th minute ritual, everyone near me just laughs in disbelief

But that’s just a device in Opposition. When does anyone refer to the Blair-Prescott government?

The trouble is September story didn’t probe far enough. Why were GM Police and Trafford Council endorsing United’s absurdly false figures?

Joint tickets are totally meaningless. Who cares or notices who the deputy is? When do we ever refer to past leaderships as joint leaderships?

Only because I noticed it on air tonight. I think I first raised it in my book Bretrayal of a Legend in 1989

Indeed you did. Which is all the more reason for your MOTD colleagues to be a bit more accurate and refer to “ticket sales” in future rather than the “attendance”, which the crowd laughs at when announced at OT

Fair point. They’re all wrong too and should be corrected

And they’ve been wrong for decades. All sorts of things have been done “for decades”, that doesn’t make them right

So if MUFC reported an attendance of a million people, the BBC should report that, should they?
