Writers are NOT employed by publishers. We are independent contractors/freelancers. We are a small one-person business. I know it stinks to realize that no one is going to hold our hands, but it's true. But knowing that fact is important so you can do the right kind of research!

It’s all about focusing on what’s in our control (IMO). Do we have control over getting an agent? Nope. But we *do* have control over how often we write and how we work to improve our craft. The better our stories are, the better our chances of getting literary representation.
