For decades the world was making progress against undernourishment.
This has ended and hunger is on the rise.

It is unfortunately in line with one of my main worries about development.
As the majority of the world now lives in places where living conditions improve, there is a gap opening up with the very poorest who live in places that don’t make progress.

While it’s technically correct to say hunger on the rise, isn’t the more meaningful observation that prevalence of hunger has stopped dropping and is now stable. Sure, less shocking, but more meaningful?

Are we talking undernourished or underfed? Imho many people are overfed and yet, strangely, undernourished.

2015 היתה שנת מפנה בכל העולם. ירידת יתרות מט"ח בסין, מעבר לגרעון נטו בהודו. סוף הנס של 1995 ואילך. @TheRealYield

This coincides with the election of radical leaders around the world including Modi, Trump, Bolsanaro etc. for whom world hunger and poverty is not even an issue.
